The Modern Day Head Unit
Saturday, December 17th, 2011
The head units that we have nowadays are very versatile and very unique in terms of the technology that is being placed into as well as the presence of many upgrades and functions that are now made available today. Are the days of having a hard time adjusting the knobs and the buttons just to get a decent radio reception gone? Absolutely yes, the vast amounts of new technology that has been made available today is definitely making waves and has totally outperformed and out classed the old electronics and equipments.
The modern day head unit is a very fascinating device. Aside from its currently advanced state, it has a very vast potential for more uses and more functions that can be installed into it. Currently more electronics companies are now trying their best to improve their current models and they are doing their best to stay on top of the other in terms of product features as well as their overall technology that is hidden behind each of their unit models.
Among the many advanced features that are now available in many units is the satellite link connection. With this feature, you can now have access to radio stations from all over the globe. You can now even listen to radio programs that are outside your country and you can have access to different channels and stations. This technology also allows you to have a Global Positioning System. Have you ever wanted to know exactly where you are and know exactly where you need to go without using a map? The global positioning system that is now available in most unit models can help you get there even though you do not have a map in hand.
Another great feature that head units have nowadays is the multimedia capabilities. Admittedly, the reason why we installed a unit or a car audio system for that matter is because of the need for entertainment or accompaniment as we drive along. The new unit models have effectively taken that up a notch and have definitely taken entertainment to a whole new level. Nowadays, not only can it allow you to play simple music files, it can also accommodate video files as well. Yes, video files and no, not for the driver. Long drives are a constant bore and people often times get really sleepy, in order to provide you with much entertainment inside your car for your passengers, video can now be played and 2 hour movies can and will turn your long drives into such a breeze. Coupled with multiple flat screen monitors in front of the dash and as well as behind each of the front row seats, you can then play simultaneous movies as you drive and possibly play individual videos per screen or monitor. There are indeed a lot of upgrades to be had in the modern day head unit, go out there or start surfing the internet so you can start enjoying a better car audio system.

Car camera-a reliable product for security
Saturday, December 17th, 2011
Have you ever wished that you had a video of an accident that you were wrongly accused or has someone pulled over in front of you and slammed on the brakes just to get an insurance pay out? How about that driver suffering from road rage that might have endangered you or your loved ones?
Parents, have you ever worried about the young driver? Are they driving safely with your vehicle? Are they observing traffic control devices? Wouldn’t you love to be able to provide additional support and driving instructions as you see areas of their driving habits that need improvement?
Commercial vehicle owners, wouldn’t you like to evaluate how your employees are driving your vehicles? Are they tailgating, driving unsafely, taking your vehicles to areas that they shouldn’t? Be informed and equipped to provide praise or discipline based on the footage captured by the car cameras.
How about that family trip to the mountains? Wouldn’t you want a video of the places you have been or a video record of the things you have seen? Imagine having a video of that family trip to the beach.
When it comes to car security, people generally think of car alarms and GPS tracking devices. What many people do not know is that car camera is equally effective at tacking all surveillance issues. These products can be directly installed anywhere in the interior of your car, SUV or truck. Some of them can also be attached to the license plates to defend against car part thefts, which generally take place without actually breaking into the car. These lightweight and highly efficient cameras can be placed anywhere inside the car, where they are virtually impossible to detect. The images produced by these cameras are often of very high quality and can be used to solve tangled insurance cases.
If fitting a car camera is something that you are interested in then you can find a range of car camera systems available online. These systems can vary and it is best to find a car camera to suit your specific requirements. There are a few important features to bear in mind. Firstly, remember that the location within your vehicle of your camera/cameras is important. A forward facing camera will protect the vehicle’s front, whilst a reversing car will protect the back of the vehicle. Secondly, the size of the system is important as you may or may not want the system to be glaringly obvious. Finally, you may want to think about the length of recording time you desire for your camera, depending on the camera’s application, your typical road usage and parking habits.
With a camera fitted in your car, surveying the road, it can prove as an excellent piece of evidence in the unfortunate event of an accident on the roads, which can then bring justice and put an end to any of the ‘it wasn’t my fault’ arguments. So whether you are a racing enthusiast, a driving instructor or simply someone who likes to keep safe, in car cameras can bring great benefit to your motoring life.

Going Digital in 2010 With The Car Audio Digital Media Player
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011
We’ve seen the FM radio, the tape player, the CD player and now – the Digital media player. New for 2010 is the Digital media player which plays solely your digital media – meaning there’s no need for CDs any longer as it includes an Mp3/iPod dock instead of a CD player.
A digital media player is a great gift for those who never leave their iPod behind. In fact, it’s this year’s must have as it not only docks your digital media device, getting rid of the irritating wires that clog up your car, new digital media players also have a number of other useful and exclusive functions.
The most recent release of digital media player is the Sony DSX-S100, a digital media stereo that includes a user friendly menu that allows you to navigate via artist, album etc from your stereo, the Tune Tray that safely stores your iPod from prying eyes and a very useful warning system that tells you that you’ve left your iPod behind after turning the ignition off – you’ll certainly never forget your iPod ever again!
The Sony DSX-S100 is looking to set a new standard for Sony as they begin to transform their range of car audio systems from CD/Mp3 players to the digital media stereo. New technologies integrated could include, the new up and coming Zappin technology which lets you search for tracks by playing a sample of the chorus from each, further allowing your eyes to be on the road rather than on the stereo.
Pioneer are also set to revolutionize the car audio system alongside Sony. They have already released a number of Digital media stereos with extra functions such as Bluetooth, making the newest stereos the leaders in the car audio industry for digital media.
It looks like the car CD player may be a thing of the past to be replaced by the Digital media stereo. So is this really the death of the CD player? Maybe not quite yet as CD players still continue to be quite popular. But with Digital media players taking over and costing no more, it does seem that in a few years we may have to say a final goodbye to the Car CD player.

New Car Stereo Systems to make Application Integration Easier.
Monday, December 12th, 2011
Web 2.0 isn’t just making the internet a better more useful place to surf. Its also helped develop the day to day sites applications being used on a hourly basis (for most people), on devices such as the iPhone, iPad and other tablet pc’s & android phones. You know sites such as Facebook, Twitter and a variety of other sites on the social scene. The surge in interest of the social media wave has also made an impression on the traditional none-web business’s. Now its becoming more important to at least think about introducing ways of integrating App’s or using App’s on the devices created by companies.
So how does this translate to car stereos and in car entertainment systems, and what services will be introduced? Well for the short term its fairly limited. There are PC systems that fit into the vehicle, however this isn’t application based. However there are more and more after market car stereos are being produced with ability to integrate iPhones and other similar devices. This integration currently only extends to the use of the iPhone music & bluetooth, however it wont be log before companies can harness the power of the iPhone and Sites like google & other applications to perform day to day tasks while in the vehicle.
For example, there is an app available for free or a nominal fee (Skobbler) which is a navigation based app which learns as you do. For example if your driving down a road and it provides wrong info or the road has changed or maybe there are local police speed checks, you can press a few buttons and this info is uploaded to the national database for everybody to use. So the next time you drive somewhere this info will be available to you and everybody else.
This is a perfect example of how a device integrated into the stereo can provide up to date info with minimal effort. The future concept of integration is unlimited, dependant on the apps available. It could be that from a few clicks on your steering wheel you can access an app that purchases an a parking ticket for an area you wish to park, or book train / plane tickets on the way to the station / airport, Or it maybe that you just want download a new album through iTunes while your driving?
The point is as long the boom in the social web is active, there will be new ways of integrating and improving systems. Introducing new methods of making our life easier & as our vehicles are central to our lives at the minute this is an obvious place to start. Who knows where we’ll be Five years down the line.

Recycle Your Car Audio System Before you Replace It
Friday, December 9th, 2011
Thinking about getting rid of your old car stereo? Wait a minute! Don’t throw it away or leave it to rust away in your shed, instead recycle it!
With new technologies constantly arriving on the market and replacing the old and a quite a lot of leisure money hanging around, we have become use to throwing away electrical goods without a second thought. But for us and the rest of the earth, this wastage can have serious consequences…
According to Recycle-More figures we throw away over 75% of electrical goods and these end up, of course, in landfills. In the last few years, electrical waste has also been increasing by a massive 5% per year, in turn increasing the amount of pollutants we’ve been pumping into the earth.
Not only are we wasting finite resources that we cannot afford to waste. Throwing away our electrical goods into landfills is causing damage to habitats, polluting the soil and the water. This is not only very dangerous for animals, but for us to, as we are polluting our own water, which as we know causes disease and illnesses.
Our wastage is excessive and without a doubt needs to be limited. So instead of throwing away your stereo, either because it is outdated or no longer works, recycle it. You may even be able to get money from recycling, which is much better than throwing it away in the dustbin.
You can find recycle units run by the third sector, councils and businesses by having a look around in your local area, ringing the council or going on the Recycle-More website, which is an electrical recycling website dedicated to informing the public on government initiatives, such as the WEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) scheme and all other recycling information.
The WEE regulations also state that all producers of electronic goods, and even sellers in some cases, have to provide an electronic recycling service. So check if the major electronic stores and the manufacturer of your stereo offer a recycle service. It may require you to drop the car audio system off or send it off to the company. On all electrical goods made after on the 13th August 2005, there should also be a crossed out wheelie bin symbol, which aims to promote recycling of electronic goods.
With recycling being on the governments top agenda, you’re bound to find an electronic recycling service in your area. If you choose not to recycle your goods, why not instead get your electronic equipment repaired? After all, it will save you the cost of buying a new system.
